Vans of various makes and sizes will be parking in cities across the US this summer and beyond. In what is bound to start a chain of similar tour runs, Park The Van bands take the show on the road, teaming up for a night of getting to know the depths of a roster that began in 2004 with the release of Dr. Dog’s debut Easy Beat. Initially synonymous with Dr. Dog, Park The Van has nurtured a roster of some of the best acts in North America and takes great pride in the artists-cultivated community, now hitting the road together, more than ever. This summer’s official Park The Van Tour brings Asheville, North Carolina’s Floating Action and New Orleans’ Generationals (the first signing from the label’s hometown) on a trek across the Mississippi and Rocky Mountains for a Western U.S. jaunt. The tour includes cities like Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tucson and many more. Also in store are select dates that include fellow PTV bands Golden Boots (Tucson) and Eagle Winged Palace (Los Angeles).

When they haven’t been busy stopping presses – see: King Khan-abetted supergroups, collaborations with Wu Tang wonder GZA, well-publicized ballyhoos with a post-meltdown Wavves – Atlanta rock-candy troublemakers The Black Lips have been assembling a nice run of dates for the summer, both festival stops and one-off gigs. Still riding the gnarled garage rock of 200 Million Thousand, The Lips will kick their sweltering saunter off with a hometown gig at The Earl, before hitting Pitchfork, Capital Hill Block Party, the festivities at East River State Park (the “new McCarren Pool”), and a Halloween showdown with New Orleans during the Voodoo Experience. And speaking of live Lips, if you missed the Daytrotter SXSW session, check out the link below.

Folkie pop crooner David Mead is back with his fifth LP, and his first since 2006’s critically acclaimed Tangerine. Almost And Always will be released by Cheap Lullaby (Joan As Police Woman, The Silver Seas, Robin McKelle) later this summer, hitting all digital stores August 4th and physical retail a few weeks later.
His most intimate work to date, Almost And Always examines life after marriage and the promise of things to come. Mead collaborated with producer Brad Jones (Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle, Jill Sobule) and new songwriting partner Bill DeMain (Swan Dive) to create a quiet, soulful collection that sets 21st century pop songs in classic arrangements that recall Harry Nilsson, Paul Anka and Harry Belafonte. As always, Mead’s honeyed voice is front and center, gently accented with classical guitar, woodwinds and string quartet.
