Go Saints! (and Ying Yang Twins, K. Gates and Wynton)
Unlike most of the US, I really don’t enjoy watching the Superbowl. It was slightly more interesting when the Patriots were in it (I’m a Masshole by birth), but slightly is the key word. This year I was hopeful I was going to strike it rich in at least one of my 2 betting square games, enjoyed the commercials (at least some of them), and ate my weight in wings and cookies, but all throughout I had my fingers crossed for New Orleans. Aside from the obvious sentimental reasons for wanting The Saints to win, there are a few things that tipped the scales in their favor:
- Every time The Saints scored a touchdown during regular season, the Ying Yang Twins’ “Halftime (Stand Up and Get Crunk)” was played in the New Orleans Superdome (an average of 4X per game this season according to this interview). Buy it here.
- A few weeks ago K. Gates sampled Halftime to create “Black & Gold (Who Dat!!)” and it’s up to #48 on the iTunes Top Songs chart and #7 on Hip-Hop/Rap. Watch it here. Buy it here.
- The Orchard’s jazz composer and musician extraordinaire, Mr. Wynton Marsalis, performed “The Spirit of New Orleans”, a spoken-word/trumpet piece, on the pre-game show. Read it here.
