Deconstructed Music Boxes From Norway

Conjuring up ethereal rhythmic landscapes that would make any quirky indietronica fan gush, Dokkemand isn’t afraid to use a bit of tension in his reveries. His debut album, Hons!, snags its name from a fifties-era plastic ring game, fittingly bringing to mind a colorful toddler’s mobile that he gazes up at with wonder. Sounding kind of like a conversation between space-robots and crickets, the Norwegian native spares nothing in his tapestry of arcade-inspired melodies. The lighthearted songs sparkle and pop and refuse to approach life with any semblance of restraint.
Dokkemand, a.k.a. Marius Egenes, releases Hons! on December 2nd, on the aptly named Other Electricities label. The album features contributions from some amazing artists, including Kate Havnevik (courtesy of Universal Records) and Cranes vocalist Alison Shaw. If Passion Pit, Bjork, and glitchy fax machines are your thing, then we’ve found your newest dig.
