It was a busy summer for the DJs of Israeli collective Soulico, what with the releases of two hot singles (“Put ‘Em Up” featuring Lyrics Born and “S.O.S” featuring Pigeon John and Ceci Bastida), a free mixtape released on Pitchfork entitled Exotic on the Mixtape, and the release of their star studded, full length album, Exotic on the Speaker, not to mention a small tour to wrap it all up.
Lesser men would rest, but this crew launched a remix contest recently via Twitter, and now the boys are back with another mixtape premiering today on Impose Magazine, and available for free at the link below.
Showing no signs of stopping, our friends from JDub Records have also announced additional tour dates all over the US, stretching way into November, which you can check out below. Summer may definitely be over, but don’t worry – these guys aren’t done.

Israeli DJ collective Soulico are poised to get asses shaking the world over with their impending album, Exotic on the Speaker, due September 8th on JDub Records. The album is the result of years of creative collaborations and finesse – culminating in 13 club ready tracks featuring the likes of Ghostface, Del the Funky Homosapien, M.I.A. understudy Rye Rye, Pigeon John, Lyrics Born, and more.
Just recently, the group leaked two tracks from the album: “S.O.S.” featuring Pigeon John and Ceci Bastida and “Put Em Up” featuring Lyrics Born. Pitchfork gave “Put Em Up” a thumbs up today, writing “’Put ‘Em Up’ is representative of four-man Tel Aviv DJ crew Soulico’s cross-cultural chops– an exuberant synthesis of traditional Israeli folk melodies and familiar hip-hop sensibilities. They’ve got a new album called Exotic On the Speaker coming October 6 via JDub Records, which includes contributions from an array of guests, including Ghostface, Rye Rye, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, and Balkan Beat Box.”
The tastemaker website also premiered a 20 track Soulico mixtape, Exotic on the Mixtape, available for FREE at the link below.

Israeli DJ collective Soulico premiered a new track from their forthcoming album, Exotic on the Speaker, on Mad Decent this weekend. The track, “Put ‘Em Up” features Lyrics Born and Ethiopian Israeli MCs, Axum, and comes right on the heels of “S.O.S.” featuring Pigeon John and Ceci Bastida, which leaked earlier this summer.
The two tracks are representative of what Exotic on the Speaker is all about – combining the hottest established and up and coming names in hip hop (Ghostface, Del the Funky Homosapien, Rye Rye, and more) with Soulico’s award winning Middle Eastern beats for an album that is sure to get the party started. What else would you expect from a bunch of DJs who regularly rub elbows with world music tastemaker extraordinaire Diplo and who’ve performed alongside the likes of Devin the Dude, Nightmares on Wax, Kid Koala, and Buju Banton?
Exotic on the Speaker hits iTunes on September 9th and stores everywhere else in early October. Grab the two tracks below and see Soulico do their thing at the dates below.

Celebrate Brooklyn! is celebrating its 30th anniversary of free concerts in Prospect Park this summer with yet another killer line-up of interdisciplinary and international acts. On Friday, June 27th, Cold War Kids, Elvis Perkins and In Dearland are joined by Brooklyn’s own Sam Champion, who are gearing up for the release of their next album later this year on North Street Records (home to indie darlings Dirty On Purpose).
Sunday, July 20th presents a showcase of artists on the genre-bending-and-straddling Jewish non-profit label, JDub Records. Hosted by comedian Michael Showalter (who also starred in sketch comedy shows The State and Stella), the show features performances by Golem! (gypsy-folk-punk), Deleon (Sephardic-inspired Latin rock), Soulico (reggae/hip-hop) and Sway Machinery (members of Balkan Beat Box, Yeah Yeah Yeahs & Antibalas).
