We are happy to share this news! Last week iTunes Ireland and iTunes UK merged to become iTunes UK & Ireland.
For Irish customers, this means they’ll now see iTunes pages programmed specifically for a UK & Ireland audience instead of pages programmed for a “Pan EU” audience. As part of this change, it also means Ireland gets its own iTunes Main page, Single of the Week, and a host of new editorial features.
This means that for a release to be featured in the Irish store it has to just be available for sale in the UK and Ireland and not all 13 countries that make up the Pan European iTunes store.

Everywhere you look you see little black and white QR Codes. On signs and posters, in magazines, on T-shirts, on flyers . . . What are those things? QR Codes are 2D barcodes placed in printed materials that you scan with your phone. Once scanned they launch your phone’s web browser and connect you directly to digital content and media. For instance, scanning a QR Code on a poster could take your fan directly to a music video or iTunes link.
For the band’s latest album, “21st Century Breakdown,” Green Day employed QR codes in magazine ads, posters, stickers and more. The QR codes directed users to a special mobile site where they could download exclusive content. The group partnered with Delivr to provide the codes, content, and media.
Delivr can help you create, distribute, and track QR Codes for use in your campaigns. Check out Delivr at http://delivr.com. The team over there would be happy to help you get started.

Earlier this year, we told our artist and labels about Retail Affiliate Programs with key digital music services such as iTunes, Amazon & eMusic. This month, we take it back to basics and explain just how easy - and important - it is to harness the power of the buy button with iTunes.
The iTunes buy button is a way for both artists and labels to extend their reach and create a simple but effective direct to consumer platform where you may not otherwise have one, and one that will easily integrate into your social media services. (more…)

Given how much Twitter has seeped into pop culture, we assume you know the terminology (like, the message you broadcast through Twitter is a “tweet”, not a “twit”), but here are a few quick tips to help you fully utilize it.

An affiliate program - hosted by digital music retailers - allows a store to track where customer sales are being driven from. It’s done by allowing an approved affiliate to create a unique link that can be posted on other websites.
Any artist or label can apply for an affiliate program. If you’re approved, you’ll be able generate these links and direct your fans to make a purchase at a retailer of your choosing. If a sale occurs, you get a cut of the profit! Depending on the store hosting the program, the details vary, so check out some of the programs listed below for more specific information.

This guest post by David Sherbow looks at potential artist revenue streams. David is the CEO of LiveMusicMachine.com and blogs MusicBizGuy Speaks.
The artist music
business model has been in flux for years. The record deal dream that most artists sought is no longer the viable alternative that it once was. The leveling of the music distribution playing field by the Internet is virtually complete. Terrestrial radio is on a path towards destruction that even the major labels can’t compete with. People now access and download music from multiple sources, usually for free. D.I.Y. solutions are everywhere, but for many artists hard to integrate into their daily lives. (more…)

Duncan Freeman, the man behind Band Metrics, has added another venture, MusicScout. It’s a free location aware mobile music smartphone app that enables you to express your thoughts about the band you’re watching in real-time from the venue. The Android app is available now, and the iPhone app will be available once approved by Apple in about 2 weeks.
They are still fine tuning the design. “But it’s not just a tool for music aficionados, critics and music lovers,” says Freeman/ “Just imagine the kind of feedback that this app could produce for a band, manager, A&R rep, etc. - from the live sound, to the songs selected for each show, to the venue, etc.”

Most aspiring artists intuitively understand that there’s value in building an audience for the long-term rather that focusing solely on short-term revenue. Bands offer free downloads, play free shows, and spend countless hours on- and offline interacting with listeners in hopes of developing a fan base that will support them over their careers.
But how much is a fan actually worth? How much should an artist be willing to sacrifice (or spend) today to acquire fans? And how many fans are needed to be able to make a living as a musician?
These aren’t easy questions to answer, but I want to try anyway. Or at least start. That’s why I’ve created a spreadsheet model to help artists estimate the lifetime value of the average fan.

Have you ever found a track, artist, or podcast on the iTunes Store you wanted to share with your friends on Twitter and Facebook? Now it’s so easy! The Post iTunes URL to Social Networks scripts make it simple.
Use of the following scripts require valid accounts on Twitter and/or Facebook.
STEP 1: Install the Scripts
Download and run the installer. Two AppleScript scripts will be placed into a special folder used by iTunes, which will automatically display them in its Script Menu.
STEP 2: Copy an iTunes Store URL
Once the AppleScript scripts are installed, you begin the process of sharing an interesting iTunes item by clicking on it with the Control key down to summon the iTunes contextual menu, and then choosing Copy iTunes Store URL from the popup menu. Doing so will place the iTunes URL on the clipboard.
