The Cinematics Release Love And Terror, Stream Album on Spinner, Are Music Journalists For A Day

October 5, 2009 Artist News No Comments

Glaswegian rockers The Cinematics are celebrating the 10/6 release of their brilliant sophomore LP, Love And Terror, with a Spinner album stream and by teaming up with British entertainment site, Female First, to take over their offices.  On Tuesday, the band will be reviewing new music, interviewing their pub-rock buddies, The Holloways, and answering questions from fans, which can be submitted right here.  They’re also going to treat fans to an exclusive acoustic performance of their latest single, “New Mexico,” and give away 10 signed copies of the record.

To enter, fans will need to log into their Twitter accounts and tweet a link to The Cinematics’ Female First Takeover, urging their friends and followers to click on it.  The traffic leading to Female First will be tracked, and the top ten Twitterers who drive the most clicks to the site will automatically win a signed CD.  More details here.

Love And Terror is available in all US stores on Tuesday and will be streaming on AOL Spinner all week.

Dodos kick off North American tour; Pitchfork Premieres “Fables” Video

October 5, 2009 Artist News No Comments

Last week, Pitchfork premiered The Dodos video for Time To Die single “Fables.” Like “Fools” – the clip that introduced the band to the world a year and a half ago – the latest vid from the San Fran folk-rock trio was directed by The Masses whiz Matthew Amato. Following a similar stylistic blueprint, the camera dollies around the studio, capturing the band playing through the song in its most raw form (check the tambourine on Logan’s foot), until a whole mess of confetti drenches everyone from the ceiling, mimicking the album art’s fixation with those tiny tabs of paper. In other news, the band just kicked off a Fall North American tour. Links and dates below. Let me know if you need anything Dodos relateed.

Raveonettes Premiere “Last Dance” Video At MTV, Keep Streaming In And Out Of Control

October 1, 2009 Artist News No Comments

Not pausing to rest their laurels in the lead up to October 6th’s In And Out Of Control, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo of The Raveonettes have premiered a brand new video for lead single “Last Dance” at MTV. The airy noisepop track, already declared “immaculate” by Spin Magazine, has been paired with an eccentric clip helmed by Matthew Lessner, the music vid whiz behind “Stillness Is The Move” by The Dirty Projectors. At times vivacious and carefree, at others adventurous and dark, the video for “Last Dance” features extensive use of a green-screen combined with lo-fi technology (like that bird Sharin is singing to in the screengrab above), mirroring the tension and interplay of a band that’s built a career out of combining old with new and dark with light. The Danish duo will bring their skuzzy bubblegum to MTV2’s Subterranean when they host the show on the night of Sunday, October 4th at 2am EST.

Melvins’ Mixed Up Remixes, Chicken Switch, Out Now

October 1, 2009 Artist News No Comments

Having just finished up their tour with Down (including a stop-over at All Tomorrow’s Parties), grunge godfathers The Melvins released their punishing remix record Chicken Switch today via Ipecac Recordings.

Unlike traditional remixes, Chicken Switch is a collection of re-named remixes (or perhaps it makes more sense to call them mash-ups?) that cull from entire Melvins’ albums as the source material.  The result is 15 new tracks that include so many bits and pieces of classic Melvins sludge that it’s hard to tell the original songs from which they came, and this is not a bad thing.

And who better to create these noise masterpieces than some of the band’s favorite noise masters?  Remixers include Eye Yamatsuka (Boredoms), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Matmos, Merzbow and many others who are well-suited for the challenge.  Grab one of the album’s slightly dancier tracks below!
