Who Needs an Olympic Gold Medal, When You’ve Got This Post-Metal Band?

August 13, 2012 Artist News No Comments

ISISWe’ve got some game-changing news, ISIS fans. Though the band may have broken up in 201o, you can experience ISIS in a new way with their release of Temporal, a collective of unreleased rarities, remixes and videos.

“It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release,” commented Aaron Harris. “I hear our catalogue differently now that I’m not living with these songs day to day. This is a special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos; some of which I think we even forgot about.”

Out November 6th on Ipecac Recordings, treat yourself to the band’s entire discography, including songs spanning from their EP Mosquito Control to their final album Wavering Radiant.

And if you’re still feeling nostalgic for ISIS after listening to Temporal, don’t worry! These super star artists are still creating new music, just in different projects. Aaron Harris, Jeff Caxide, and Clifford Meyer, ex-members of ISIS, have partnered with Chino Moreno to form Palms, whose debut album will be out in early 2013; ex-member Mike Gallagher continues on with his solo project MGR; and Turner’s Old Man Gloom, formed by Aaron Turner, released No in late June.

When we think of ISIS, we remember that they challenged metal music, themselves, and their fans all while maintaining a common theme throughout each release. So go back in (not-too-distant) time with us and get excited for Temporal!

“Another Music” Release From Hopewell? We’ll Take It!

August 2, 2012 Artist News No Comments

Hopewell, Another MusicTalk about a triple threat! Hopewell is teaming up with Mark Gardener of Ride to cover Brian Eno‘s “Needle In The Camel’s Eye.” And this is only the first song off of the Brooklyn rock band’s new EP, Another Music, coming out on September 11th via Tee Pee Records.

Another Music is a collection of 5 songs that started from an endless recording project for the band during a 2009 tour. Hopewell recorded a handful of covers intended to feature David Baker (Mercury Rev’s original singer, who had disappeared from music 15 years earlier), but Baker bailed at the last minute. Determined to work with one of their shoegaze heros, Hopewell reached out to Mark Gardener, and we could not be more excited for the result! To top it all off, the music video for “Needle In The Camel’s Eye” will be directed by Art Boonparn.

According to their Facebook bio, Hopewell spans “time, exploring the outer/inner reaches so you don’t have to.” Their EP will definitely be doing just that by exploring their music sound, combining their noisy ’90s roots and their psychedelic dreamy pop sounds.

Another Music is designed to draw you in with a couple of catchy songs then lead you out past the buoys into deeper water,” Jason Russo of Hopewell states. And after a decade of continuous releases, we can’t wait to hear where Hopewell’s new material will lead us.

Cassettes May Not Be Listening, But We Definitely Are

August 2, 2012 Artist News No Comments

What started as just a bedroom affair resulted in something no one saw coming: Cassettes Won’t Listen.

CWL started in 2004 when Jason Drake picked up a microphone for the first time after years of producing Electronic inspired tracks and instrumental Hip Hop. The result: future fan favorite “Cutting Ballons.” Jason witnessed the MP3 show up on influential blogs and reach #1 on WOXY‘s Top 20, while his fan base steadily grew.

After three albums and a year of remixes for Diplo, Gold Panda and Homeboy Sandman, Cassettes Won’t Listen is back with a brand new EP, Casa. Mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, the 4-song EP shows what CWL has been up to since his last release.

While CWL has grown as an artist (he’s no longer working in his bedroom, that’s for sure!), his defining characteristics — the sparse arrangements, intimate lyrics, vocal quality and use of live drums, guitars and synths — are all still there. We’re sure fans of his earlier work, such as “Paper Float,” will have Casa on repeat!

Can’t wait any longer to hear what CWL has in store? Stream “Ignore It” the first track off the EP on Daylight Curfew.

The “Kiss Me” Duo is Back in Action

Remember that song “Kiss Me” that seemed like it was in every chick flick? Well the chart-topping group responsible for it, Sixpence None The Richer, is back after their decade-long recording hiatus.

The band will celebrate the release of their new LP Lost In Transition with a performance at Mercury Lounge on August 7th. This will be the band’s first NYC show since 2008.

While their standout track “Sooner Than Later” may not be as upbeat as “Kiss Me,” the song is definitely memorable and strikes a chord. Singer Leigh Nash tells Billboard that the song, which you can stream here, is about her father who passed away in 2007:

“That’s a relationship and something I don’t mind at all baring for the world to see. The pain of losing a parent, a lot of people can connect with that,” she says.

Another album highlight, “Radio,” was championed by Perez Hilton as a “jewel of a track.” Perez has also just featured the music video for “Sooner Than Later” on his site and shared his unbridled excitement at the band jamming together again. After that kind of review from the celeb blogger, we can only expect more silver screen attention…

The event details for the Mercury Lounge concert are posted below.
