We are proud to announce one of our latest direct artist signings, the Brooklyn-based band Thieving Irons. Their sophomore album, Behold, This Dreamer!, is slated for a June 5th release and is blissful ear candy from start to finish.
Thieving Irons is the brainchild of Nate Martinez, who is formerly a founding member of the band Pela. Martinez has built up quite the indie rock resume over the years: in addition to Pela, he’s recorded and toured with The National, played guitar for Alexi Murdoch and was involved with We Are Augustines’ critically acclaimed album Rise Ye Sunken Ships, which iTunes had named the “Best Alternative Album” of 2011 in their year-end “Rewind” round-up.
The first album, This Midnight Hum, was released in 2010 to rave reviews. KEXP wrote that the debut album was “beautifully textured indie folk, highlighted by Martinez’s distinctive voice.”
This second album was inspired by the title of a book he stumbled on to inside a Chicago bookstore. It is a fitting album title, as the songs have a lush, atmospheric quality; they are multi-layered explorations of themes and ideas but also contain melodies that will hook you in and stay with you.
You may have heard Thieving Irons recently on Showtime’s The Big C or on a few different episodes of MTV’s I Just Want My Pants Back. Perhaps you’ve seen the “So Long” video – featured below! — that premiered on Stereogum. Or you might have heard “Poison,” another album track, as Magnet’s MP3 of the Day. Maybe you’ve listened to Thieving Irons on KEXP. This list is certainly not exhaustive and you can expect to be seeing and hearing a lot more about Thieving Irons in the near future.
