Welcome to the Family, Omnian Music Group, Moshi Moshi Records, Donna Summer and Gege Produções!

NewMusicSignings_TheOrchardSeptember2014Four new labels are joining The Orchard family! We’re super excited to announce that Omnian Music Group, Moshi Moshi Records, Donna Summer and Gege Produções (whew, that’s a mouthful!) have all been added to our distribution roster. We’ll be making sure you get to hear every bit of the fantasmical music they each have to offer. Before doing that, though, let’s take a quick look at just who these labels are.

First up on the docket: Omnian Music Group. This Brooklyn-based indie label is the brain child of Captured Tracks founder Mike Sniper. He’s got lots planned for the label’s five divisions: Body Double, Fantasy Memory, Flying Nun, Squirrel Thing, Couple Skate and (newly created) Sinderlyn, home to new buzz-band HOMESHAKE.

Next, there’s UK-based / Japanese-named Moshi Moshi Records (one of my all-time faves). What started as a hobby has become a full-time job for Michael McClatchey and Stephen Bass, who’ve been running the label now for 15 years. Through the years, they’ve uncovered exceptional indie acts and been touted “one of the best indie labels around,” by NME. Tom Vek, Teleman and Summer Camp are ones to watch from this label.

Driven By the Music belongs to the estate of late, great Queen of Disco Donna Summer. As you can imagine, the entire catalogue consists her Disco dance-floor hits. Seven releases from 1980-1991 are in there, with twelve Billboard Hot 100 singles. Get ready to hear a lot more of this lovely lady on your weekends – her dance-happy disco-fever is going to have DJs going crazy with all the new content available!

And lastly, we’ve decided to get into the political realm… with Brazil’s former Minister of Culture. Gilberto Gil’s been a leader in Brazil’s politics since the ‘80s (and had a very good run, at that!), but we’re more excited about his label, Gege Produções. Expect to hear anything from funk to samba to bossa nova and beyond in this catalog range.

Be on the lookout for lots of content coming from these key players, and read more details in our official press release. We can’t wait to share it all with you!
