Inspired by a true story, Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” tells the tale of Cecil Gaines, the White House servant of seven presidents. The story follows Gaines’ struggle though life in the cotton fields of the deep-south to his experience as a White House butler during a time of political turmoil. From start to finish, “The Butler” depicts 30 years of arguably the most unstable time in American History.
The film stars former Oscar winner Forest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines, and the one and only Oprah Winfrey as his wife Gloria. Check out what Winfrey and Whitaker have to say about the film in this interview they did for The New York Times. Other cast members include Cuba Gooding Jr., John Cusack, Robin Williams, Jane Fonda, Lenny Kravitz, and Mariah Carey. Phew, that’s quite a crew!
When you go see this historically packed drama, which comes out this Friday, keep an ear out for two songs we secured for the movie: Faye Adams’ “Hurts Me To My Heart” [Cleopatra Records] and Mozart’s “Rondo No. 2 in C Major for Violin and Orchestra, K.373: Allegretto Grazioso” [Stradivari Classics]. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m definitely going to shell out 15 bucks on August 16th to watch a bit of American history. Check out the entire cast on IMDb and watch the trailer below:
