Around the States in 51 Days… The Melvins Set their Sights on Guinness

June 15, 2012 Artist News No Comments

Melvins Lite, Freak PukeMelvins Lite — a new incarnation of The Melvins composed of original members Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover as well as Trevor Dunn of Fantomas and Tomahawk — may have just come out with their debut release Freak Puke last week, which Spin described as “a unique detour for the long-running band,” adding that “one of the loudest bands on earth has perfectly siphoned their gloomy energy into evil cocktail jazz,” …but the band didn’t stop at that.

This fall, the folks of Melvins Lite will attempt to become Guinness World Record holders for the “first band to tour the full United States and D.C. in 51 days!” Crazy, right?

Buzz would agree… “We figured it was time for us to do something REALLY crazy,” said Osborne. “51 shows in 50 states plus 1 on D.C. and all in 51 days? Jeez! I wonder if we can do it?” The tour also marks the first time in the band’s near 30-year history that they will perform in Alaska, New Hampshire, Delaware and Hawaii. That should save money on travel for some fans!

The tour kicks off September 5 in Anchorage, Alaska and wraps up October 25 in Honolulu, Hawaii. [Perfect, right?]

If you can’t wait until then, catch The Melvins at one of their several appearances pre-record-breaking tour, including a show in conjunction with Subliminal Projects on June 30 at TT Underground Gallery in New York and a slew of performances in Canada starting July 1st (see below for all dates).

And because we just can’t get enough: Buzz Osborne will be a guest on Fox News’ “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld” on June 28, and here’s a clip of their performance of “The War on Wisdom” from a recent episode of Last Call with Carson Daly:
