If you were curious about The Orchard’s 2017 film slate, just wait until you hear this: We’ve acquired worldwide rights to documentary Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George’s Creators.
From director Ema Ryan Yamazaki and narrated by Sam Waterston (Law & Order, The Killing Fields), Monkey Business traces the colorful story of Curious George authors/illustrators Hans and Margret Rey. When I say colorful, I don’t mean that these two were only creative enough to dream up one of the world’s most beloved characters, I mean that they ran away from Nazi-occupied France on bicycles they made themselves, lived amongst exotic animals in South America and more. That’s right, George’s stories didn’t come from imagination alone. They came from the surreal experiences of Hans and Margaret.
With real life interviews and animated story telling, Monkey Business explores the depth and wonderful sense of adventure behind our favorite childhood chimp.
