After ‘Super Furry Animals,’ ‘Godspeed You! Black Emperor,’ ‘…And You will Know Us by the Trail of Dead’ or ‘Black Rebel Motorcycle Club,’ let’s welcome He’s My Brother She’s My Sister to my personal list of longest and most original signed band names!
Wait… did I say signed? Yes! After more than 150 live performances to near-capacity crowds under their belt, sharing the stage with the likes of Neko Case, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Charles Bradley, The Blow, Local Natives, Dawes, Dr. Dog, My Morning Jacket and many others, He’s My Brother She’s My Sister finally signed to Park the Van, announcing a forthcoming LP and extensive North American tour in support!
Ready to take the spotlight again with its new Nobody Dances in this Town to be released this winter, He’s My Brother She’s My Sister will hit the road from Santa Barbara on September 15 to Atlanta on November 1, including two shows in New York, making its first appearances since its sold-out set at the Knitting Factory this past January. The band will also perform at Austin City Limits on Friday, October 12 on the same “Google Play” stage as Esperanza Spalding and Alabama Shakes, as well as a late night appearance at Stubbs on Saturday October 13.
He’s My Brother She’s My Sister can be described as the perfect combination of Folk, Glam Rock and Blues with the theatrics of Cabaret and the hip shake of Rock-a-Billy. Joined by Oliver Newell (bass), Aaron Robinson (lead guitar) and Lauren Brown (percussion, drums and tap-dancing), brother Robert Kolar (guitar and kick drum) and sister Rachel Kolar (tambourine) share vocal duties offering performances breezy to emotive and energetic to introspective.
