“I was on the road with the bands mostly for fun but also to document the tour any way I knew how. Most nights, PS I Love You would end their set by inviting Diamond Rings to the stage to play their single “Leftovers.” With no clear plan in mind, I started to tape their performances of the single. Halfway through the tour when we found ourselves with a day off, we decided it might be fun to develop a music video for the song while still on the road. Driving from Austin, TX to Tuscon, AZ, we stopped over in a small town called Marfa, TX (pop. 2000) and rented a trailer for the night. Using the song’s title as a cue, Paul (of PS I Love You) cooked up an amazing meal for all of us in the small confines of our mobile home, and of course, there were plenty of leftovers.”
“Leftovers” will be available on PS I Love You’s forthcoming rarities compilation, Figure It Out, due August 30th on vinyl and as a digital download from Paper Bag Records.
PS I Love You will also be featured on the music discovery site mySpoonful.com today (8/17), with their song “Facelove” being made available for free download.
The band will embark on a massive tour next month, starting September 3rd in Seattle at the Bumbershoot Festival, and wrapping up on October 29th in their hometown of Kingston, ON. All dates listed below.
Syracuse quintet Ra Ra Riot premiered, “Keep It Quiet,” a two-minute preview on the making of their sophomore album, The Orchard, this week at RaRaRiot.com. Directed by Taryn Gould and Emily Kowalczyk, “Keep It Quiet” provides a brief glimpse into the idyllic setting in which the new album was written, including exclusive performance footage shot in the orchard that inspired the record’s title.
Due August 24th on Barsuk Records, The Orchard follows up Ra Ra Riot’s debut album, The Rhumb Line, released two years earlier, almost to the day. The Rhumb Line debuted at #109 on the U.S. album chart and went on to sell in excess of 60,000 copies.
Ra Ra Riot also just announced an extensive North American tour in support of The Orchard. Preceded by appearances at the Osheaga and Bumbershoot festivals and a support slot for Devo at this year’s Columbus Ohio State Fair, the tour kicks off with a September 21-24 four-night stand in New York, with coast to coast headlining dates running through to late November.
