I’m sorry, what was that? Did you just ask what I was doing this weekend? Well, I’m going to my local Record Store, obvi!
T’is true, friends. This Saturday — tomorrow — is Record Store Day 2012, and that means you can celebrate music in its oldest and most tangible form: vinyl. [And well, you can buy CDs too, we won't object!]
The other totally AWESOME thing about Record Store Day are the performances!!! And we’ve got a handful of great ones lined up to entertain your nostalgic ears at stores around the country:
Vintage Trouble will blow your socks off at Zia Records in Las Vegas, NV
Rhett Miller is rocking out at Cactus Music in Houston, TX
Races will give you a show you’ll never forget at the Origami Record Store Day Party in Echo Park, CA
Suckers will be spinning it up in a DJ set at Other Music in New York, NY
Let’s show our local record stores some love! We’re brimming with excitement and we know you are, too.
Ready for some new music from The Black Angels? Yeah, we thought so. The Black Angels have just announced a new 7” that will be released as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 21 via Blue Horizon. Pitchfork just unveiled the new track “I’d Rather Be Lonely” and notes that this is “quite a new look for the band” and the song is “flat-out pretty.” Check it out for yourself here.
The 7” will feature yet another new track, “Watch Out Boy,” on orange colored vinyl. As if that’s not enough, the package includes a download card with a bonus MP3 of the band’s incredible cover of The Zombies’ “She’s Not There.” We would be remiss if we didn’t mention that the single was produced by our very own Richard Gottehrer, and the tracks were also recorded and mixed by another Orchardite, Alonzo Vargas.
In case you missed it, the band recently debuted their new music video for “Entrance Song” on VEVO. The video chronicles a solitary biker’s psychedelic journey through a barren desert. Get entranced and watch it now right here:
The Black Angels will be hitting the road very shortly starting with Coachella on April 13. The band is also hosting their fifth annual Austin Psych Fest from April 27-29, and later this summer, you can catch them perform at the Orion Music + More Festival, Metallica’s celebration of the 20th anniversary of their Black Album, on June 23-24. Full tour dates are below.
