Waiting for Veronica Falls

January 29, 2013 Artist News No Comments

Veronica Falls "Buried Alive"Almost a year and a half after the release of their debut, eponymous record, Veronica Falls have bestowed the world with a new track, “Buried Alive,” off of their upcoming record, Waiting for Something to Happen. The album comes out February 12th on Slumberland Records and you can preview it now in its full glory through Pitchfork Advance.

The song is a potent head-bobber (or foot-tapper, if you’re more conservative), with the driving feel of the drums and bass, sprinkled with melodic guitars. It’s clear that the band has grown and developed a fresh sound since their last record. The London quartet have refined their sound with robust guitar lines and stronger vocal hooks, while maintaining their fundamental and endearingly delicious Goth Pop sound that still maintains to satiate any seemingly insatiable appetite.

Waiting for Something to Happen is a sophisticated, yet charmingly flippant statement about the growing pains of growing up — a musical Bildungsroman of sorts with some smiles along the way. With the help of seasoned musician/producer, Rory Attwell (Male Bonding, The Vaccines), Veronica Falls creates alluring soundscapes with their perfectly subtle harmonies blending into a melting pot of dreamy, reverberating guitars and shimmering drums. The musical personalities of the record supplement the journey of maturation, one that everyone has or will experience sometime in their lives.

When you listen to the record carefully, it’s hard not to reminisce about the tender memories of growing older and slowly beginning to understand who you are. Whether it’s coming to terms with having significant responsibilities or being hopelessly devoted to a fleeting feeling, there’s something supernatural about this record that hits you with the innocent force of your first ex-lover, your first summer job, and your first rent check, all bundled into a beautiful collage of that time when your naïveté got its first bruise, and you just waited for something to happen.

Find out what happens on February 12th.
