Walk The Talk Talk

August 23, 2012 Artist News No Comments

We are in 1986, Talk Talk is on stage facing an over-excited audience. After a 2-hour show, the crowd is crying for more “Talk Talk,” “It’s My Life,” “Such a Shame,” “Life’s What You Make It” …ZZzzzzZZ…

[Alarm clock]

Bip, bip, bip… What? It’s 2012? What happened? Where is Talk Talk?

30 years. Already 30 years have passed since Talk Talk made its mark on the mainstream. And to celebrate the occasion, a handful of artists have decided to pay tribute to the legendary Talk Talk, and thus to walk the talk… talk.

Top notch artists including King Creosote, White Lies, Zero 7, Joan As Police Woman and Linton Kwesi as well as some more unexpected ones like members of The Verve, Arcade Fire, Grandaddy, Electric Soft Parade, Guillemots and Bon Iver will be re-interpreting and rebooting Talk Talk’s greatest moments, from It’s My Life to The Colour Of Spring. This collaboration of 30 contemporary acts from around the globe bears the name Spirit Of Talk Talkand the double album will leave you screaming for more…

Coming out September 3rd on Fierce Panda RecordsSpirit Of Talk Talk is the result of several labours of love, of generosity (services and recordings were provided for free by the artists involved), and even a hint of perfectionism. To top it off, Fierce Panda are donating all the proceeds to the conservation organization BirdLife International, specifically benefiting the Rare Bird Club. (Can you tell they’re big nature lovers?)

To get you pumped for the album, Stereogum is hosting a FREE DOWNLOAD of Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle’s cover of “Tomorrow Started.”

If you’re lucky enough to be around for the Spirit of Talk Talk launch party, you definitely don’t want to miss it! Featuring full live performances from half a dozen of the Spirit Of Talk Talk acts and many Talk Talk-themed happenings, the party is going on in London on September 6th at The Venue, 229 Great Portland Street.

Go on then, go talk about this with your friends and honor Talk Talk in your own way (and save some birds while you’re at it)!
