It’s great being an Orchard-ite in general with all the labels and film partners we work with, awesome annual summer barge parties and wonderful people to work with every day. It’s even better when we fall in love with some of our projects. So, what’s been happening this summer?
Well… a number of things. Here are a few releases we’re really digging that you might not have heard about yet!
We’ve recently released some beautiful soundtracks, including Beasts of the Southern Wild, which has been praised all around the world, from Sundance to Cannes! The film is a beautiful tale directed by Benh Zeitlin and co-written by Lucy Alibar about a six-year-old girl, Hushpuppy, who leaves her ailing father on an epic trip to save her world. The soundtrack, written by producer/mixer and composer Dan Romer and Zeitlin himself, is built around that simple concept: the music leads the main character throughout her journey. I’ve been hearing this soundtrack a lot around the office and I can tell you, it really makes you want to travel. It just makes you feel good.
Another amazing album is Nathan Alpern’s score to Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present. Nathan is also known as one of the guitarists of the band Ghostwise. The documentary follows Marina during the preparation of a major restrospective of her work taking place at the MoMA. The score is as you may already assume: intense, charged with string melodies, beautiful.
Another record we’ve been really into this summer is a French phenomenon. You might need a little background for this one (and potentially additional French classes): Coming to you from a new generation of comedians growing in France, this hilarious and creative group of young men made a name for themselves through video podcasts on YouTube. Filmed from their bedrooms, the concept is to talk about life: things that make you laugh, things you cannot stand… and all that smartly edited. Today, Norman fait des vidéos, Hugo tout seul and Mister V ‘s videos reach millions of views in just a few days.
The Orchard noticed that one of these hilarious Frenchman had a little something extra: he created hilarious songs. Mister V and his last video, “Summer Montagne,” (Summer Mountain) is dedicated to all the people who don’t get the chance to spend the summer at Ibiza or Miami! The track will be released on iTunes on August 7th, and you can watch the video here for a sneak peek. After all, there’s no reason why you wouldn’t be able to party like you’re at Benicassim Festival even if you’re in the middle of the French countryside! Yes!
