Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s edition of Freeloader Friday. I’m sure you’ve had a long week in anticipation of the Grammys this weekend. We’ll have our fingers crossed on Sunday hoping that all 30 of our nominations come to fruition! But enough bragging, let’s get down to brass tax and new tracks.
Leading off this week’s celebration is a full stream of Hand Habits‘ divine debut LP Wildly Idle (Humble Before The Void). The brain child of eclectic indie songwriter Meg Duffy, Hand Habits has the intimacy of a solo act but the expansiveness of a full band effort. Wildly Idle is gentle and melodic yet disruptive and unpredictable. Guitars shimmer and vocals float lightly throughout, but lyrically the album is declarative and thought-provoking. It’s perfect for your end of week reflection. Wildly Idle (Humble Before The Void) is out today on Woodsist.
Next up is your new favorite band, Red Baraat. In a swirling culmination of middle-eastern styles, jazzy grooves and rhythmic lyricism, this band is guaranteed to get people moving. The Brooklyn band’s new track “Bhangale” is universally appealing in its energy. Among the banging beats and blaring horn solos is perfectly placed guitar work from certified shredder Delicate Steve. It’s a hell of a song and we can’t wait for Red Baraat‘s full length Bhangra Pirates, out March 24 on Rhyme & Reason Records.
Rounding out today’s tunes is Australian country quartet All Our Exes Live in Texas with a new video for their song “Boundary Road.” The song is a beautiful work dressed in sweeping vocal harmonies and country instrumentation. It’s so well put together that you’ll be surprised their not from the Lone Star state they named themselves after. The video is made of sliced up tour footage as we follow the band through New York City subway stations, backyard bars and dimly lit stages. If you’re into it, keep an eye out for the band’s record When We Fall out March 3 on Whirlwind Entertainment.
