Hey, everybody! I’m back again. For those of you I didn’t get to meet last week, my name is Adam DeAscentis and I’ll be stepping in as host of Freeloader Fridays over the next few months. This week is jam packed with great new music — here are my favorites!
Let’s first check out Windhand’s latest album release, Grief’s Infernal Flower. This gritty, Psychedelic Rock band has delivered some seriously grungy new material and thanks to our friends at NPR, you can stream the whole album right now. Reminiscent of Nirvana and other down-tuned, over-driven rock bands, this music tends to the darker side of the spectrum. But keep your ears open! Pockets of Acoustic serenity on tracks like “Sparrow” and “Aition” provide a pleasant balance.
Next, dig this soulful from The Dap-Kings, the iconic Funk band that you’ve probably heard on recordings with artists like Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Sharon Jones. Their new track, “Thunderclap” is a Funky Instrumental recording that builds into a driving groove, complete with a Soulful horn section, vibraphone and percussion. Whether you know all the Classic Soul of James Brown and Aretha Franklin or you just know that you like a good horn solo, do yourself a favor and get down with The Dap-Kings.
Midwest Indie-Pop band, Maritime, rounds out this week’s collection with an uplifting and energetic new song,“Roaming Empire”. With Classic Pop harmony and dreamy, melancholy vocals, Maritime has crafted a catchy tune well-suited for, say, the cab ride home at the end of a night that went on an hour too long. Let it wrap you up and get you home safe and sound.
Now get to listening! Catch you next week.
