The Orchard Lifts Bart Layton’s “American Animals” From Sundance 2018

The Orchard’s film phenoms stormed into Sundance once again this January, teaming up with MoviePass Ventures to capture the North American rights to Bart Layton’s American Animals. The film premiered in the competitive Sundance landscape and received rave reviews from Variety, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and more.

American Animals is based on the true story of an attempt made by four young men to steal a collection of rare books from Kentucky’s Transylvania University library. However, this is not your normal heist flick, as the film’s layers explore ideas about truth, memory and personal meaning. Combining aspects of documentary and fiction, Finnouala Halligan of Screen Daily called the film “a potential Point Break or Fight Club of its generation.”

Regarding the deal, Bart Layton said: “I made this film to be watched in theaters and the fact that this incredibly impressive partnership and this innovative deal put so much emphasis on that is hugely exciting. Plus, I’ve always loved Orchards.” Well we’ve always loved good filmmaking Bart, so thank you!

Starring Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, Jared Abrahamson and more, this is one you’ll need to keep an eye on for 2018.
