The Orchard Picks Up TIFF’s Devilish ‘Demon’

DemonNow that “wedding season” is winding down and everyone has had their fair share of Halloween tricks and treats, we thought it’d be the perfect time to let you in on our latest film acquisition, Demon, which had its world premiere at 2015’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Given the film title, you can probably surmise the Halloween reference. But wedding season? Not so easy. So here’s the rundown: in the horror flick, a soon-to-be man and wife receive land as part of their nuptial celebration. Peter (the bridegroom) goes to check out the land meant to propel the couple into wedded bliss. When he uncovers bones buried on the property, this Polish wedding celebration quickly becomes one of the year’s most disturbing films. The movie is late director Marcin Wrona‘s take on dybbuk, the Jewish folklore term describing an evil spirit not properly laid to rest that posseses the body of a living person. And you guessed it: our main guy Peter is the one who gets dybbuk-ed.

We’ll be releasing this highly creepy film next year, but until then check out the very NSFW trailer below and get more details on the deal from our official press release and Deadline’s press coverage. Happy Haunts!
