July 25, 2011 Artist News No Comments

New Orleans indie-pop sensation Generationals just launched a remix competition for two of the standout tracks from their sophomore Park The Van LP, Actor-Caster. The guidelines are simple: download the stems of either “Greenleaf” or “Ten-Twenty-Ten” (or both, if you’re feel extra ambitious) and create a remix using the software of your choice. Submit your remix via the SoundCloud DropBox on the site, and two winners will be chosen to receive a free 3-month trial membership to music streaming service Rdio. Winners will also receive an Rdio tote bag and a prize pack of Park The Van goodies, including CDs, vinyl and digital downloads.

Maps & Atlases Launch Remix Competition, Release Living Decorations EP

March 2, 2011 Artist News No Comments

On the heels of the recent debut of their video for “Living Decorations”, Chicago’s Maps & Atlases released the Living Decorations EP exclusively on iTunes.

The band also just announced the launch of a Perch Patchwork Remix Competition last week. Maps & Atlases have provided the stems of three songs from their debut full-length Perch Patchwork, released last year on Barsuk Records, at www.mapsandatlases.org/remix.  Participants are invited to create their own patchwork remix of these epic jams by using at least one snippet from each song.  Five winners will be chosen by the band and will receive a boatload of Maps & Atlases merch and music (as well as some other goodies).  The winning remixes will also be released by the band as a digital EP.  For more details, visit the remix site above.

Setting the tone for all this remix goodness, Maps & Atlases are excited to offer up a remix of “Living Decorations” by noted UK art-rock quartet Breton who, under the moniker bretonLABS, have previously remixed tracks by Local Natives, Temper Trap, Yeasayer and others.  Check it out here.

Finally, the band recently visited Laundro Matinee and filmed live performances of three songs from Perch Patchwork plus a cover of a Bob Marley song on the occasion of his 66th birthday.  Watch it here.

Phantogram Mixes It Up: Fall Tour Starts This Week With New Live Line-Up + Chuck Brody Remixes “When I’m Small”

September 22, 2010 Artist News No Comments

The Saratoga Springs, NY duo of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, known collectively as Phantogram, unveiled their new three-piece live performance lineup last night in New York, where they supported their friends Ra Ra Riot at a sold-out Bowery Ballroom show. For the first time since the release of their debut LP Eyelid Movies on Barsuk Records earlier this year, Carter and Barthel are now being joined on stage by Tim Oakley (The Mathematicians) on drums, samples, and Akai MPC.

Tonight in Boston, the three begin their headlining tour across the country with Josiah Wolf of Why? supporting.  It includes stops at Treasure Island Festival and Filter’s Culture Collide Fest in LA.

To celebrate the beginning of the tour, the band is offering a free download of the Chuck Brody remix of “When I’m Small”.

Since its release, Eyelid Movies has been lauded: NPR fell for the band’s “mysterious, danceable pop music.” Pitchfork called it “a sumptuous, seductive record,” while both Spin and Alternative Press gave the record four stars.

Local Natives Hit AOL Interface, Remixes Start Pouring In

July 6, 2010 Artist News No Comments

The praise being bestowed upon LA’s Local Natives is thanks, in large part, to the gloriously arranged harmonies and relentless energy that propels Gorilla Manor to places like the #11 spot on NPR’s recently-released Best of 2010 reader’s poll. The rest of the thanks is owed to the band’s stage show, an imposing wall of voices, sweat and roiling vigor. You can hear and see a bit of both on the band’s recent stop in AOL’s LA offices, where the Natives tore through characteristically emphatic renditions of Manor faves “Sun Hands,” “Airplanes,” “World News” and “Wide Eyes.” The performances are available to watch, embed or download over on AOL Spinner.
