Freeloader Friday: The Entrance Band, Boreta, William Onyeabor, Withered Hand, Leif Vollebekk, Rathborne, M+A, Carina Round, ASG & Sophie Auster

November 22, 2013 Freeloader Friday No Comments

boreta_honeyheartIt’s the Friday before Thanksgiving and that means it’s time to look back at all the things we are thankful for — no matter where you are in the world.

First, I’m thankful for the amazing Orchard family we have here and the food-coma-worthy potluck we hosted in our NYC office last night. I’m also thankful for art, entertainment and of course, MUSIC! Which brings me to this special Freeloader Friday, which will have to last you two weeks while we take a break next Thursday and Friday to feast some more.

Our one-and-only full album stream this week comes to us courtesy of The Entrance Band. It’s a bit of a comeback for them after a four year hiatus and the title refers to the light at the end of a tunnel filled with some pretty dark emotions.

To add to that uplifting note, The Glitch Mob’s Justin Boreta just released a moving track inspired by a trip to Ethiopia along with Soma Water and Charity: Water. In it, he pairs local sounds with his signature beats, and the result is well worth a listen. Plus, we love the artwork (see above). Not too far away, in Nigeria, William Onyeabor might be listening to the remix of his track “Good Name” by French producer Joakim. We know we are. Keep an eye out for more remixes from Luaka Bop’s newly released Who Is William Onyeabor? in partnership with Moog.

Also check out a preview of Withered Hand‘s upcoming 2014 album — the track below features Pam Berry and The Vaselines’ Eugene Kelly, who are among several other amazing contributors you can look forward to on the record. Then, add Leif Vollebekk to your library with Rolling Stone’s Daily Download.

We’ve gone a little crazy this week on the music video front, but we just couldn’t narrow down the selection from these fab five: Rathborne, who’s on tour right now with Albert Hammond Jr., goes a little psychedelic; M+A takes us for a roller-coaster ride of love and lust; Carina Round uses fan-submitted messages for a heart-warming effect; ASG goes black-and-white; and Sophie Auster shows us how to make an artistically beautiful video on a dime.

Happy Friday and Happy Thanksgiving!

Local Natives "Breakers"Aaaand, we’re back! To make up for eating lots of great food last week (or hearing about it), we’ve put together a collection of awesome music and visuals to go with it.

That’s right — you’ll notice we’ve got a slew of music videos for you, and they’re all exceptional and unique in their own way. Immortalizing The Orchard’s Stairwell Series: CMJ Edition

October 25, 2012 Marketing, Orchard News No Comments

CMJ 2012 The OrchardSuccess!! The Orchard’s first ever Stairwell Series *CMJ Edition* kicked off last week and it went off without a hitch. Diana Wollach here at our office, along with help from our client managers, coordinated an acoustic gig on the stairwell of our NYC office for each of the 4 days of CMJ.

We had the pleasure of hosting a diverse group of artists for this opening series, including the exciting Electronic group from England Duologue, the enchanting New York songstress Sophie Auster, the Electro/Glam/Rock Solid Gold and the ever-bright Pop/Rock band Pretty & Nice.

It was impressive to watch some of these bands play the most acoustic sets they’ve ever played, yet still capture the room. Some of us caught these bands outside of the office for their CMJ showcases and were further impressed. Thank you to all involved and we look forward to yet another great CMJ Edition in 2013.

Here are links to the videos for two of our favorite songs from each. Listen! Share! Buy! And most important: Enjoy!
