Don’t Mess with Texas: SXSW 2012 New Music Sampler

March 5, 2012 Uncategorized No Comments

It doesn’t roll off the tongue with quite the same alliterative ease but let’s call this Freeloader Monday.

If you’re heading down to Austin next week, it’s a good bet that you have started to assemble an elaborate SXSW itinerary that will take you all over the city to see literally dozens of shows, from day parties, to official showcases, to late night performances taking place in weird and wonderful locations like, say, the middle of a bridge at 4 am. (Said itinerary will hopefully also take you to many many delicious Tex-Mex and BBQ joints as well but that’s for another post. Sleep, however, is for the weak).

Navigating the list of artists can be a daunting experience but we’re here to help. Our free Don’t Mess with Texas: SXSW 2012 New Music Sampler contains tracks from 23 can’t-miss-artists.

Click HERE to download the compilation. Starting tomorrow it will also be available for streaming on services like SpotifyRdio and Amazon.

Check out the track list after the jump.

SXSW, Here We Come…

March 8, 2011 Artist News No Comments

Ah, the cackle of the grackle. The BBQ and burritos and Whataburgers. The crisp Shiner Bock. Austin, TX: we love thee. The Orchard distributes music by about 140 artists that are performing at SXSW 2011. Some are playing eight sets in four days. Others are playing once. We’re particularly excited about these two.

Quadron is a cool producer / singer duo from Copenhagen, Denmark that plays sophisticated finger-snap soul. Their fans include Pharrell Williams, James Murphy, and KCRW. At SXSW, they kick off the Yours Truly showcase at 8pm Friday, March 18 at Malverde, which looks like Quadron sounds. After SXSW, they’re playing a handful of US support dates with Raphael Saadiq.

The brainchild of Golden Triangle guitarist O.J. San Felipe, Xray Eyeballs is a Brooklyn-based quintet whose gloriously fuzzy, hooky, and darkly tinted garage pop has earned favorable comparisons to Jay Reatard and the early works of seminal LA punkers Urinals. Following two rare-as-hen’s-teeth cassette releases, their proper full-length debut Not Nothing will be released April 19 via Kanine Records [Surfer Blood, Grizzly Bear]. The lead single “Crystal” is a self-proclaimed “crystal meth breakup song” which you can listen to here. [11pm Wednesday, March 16 at Beauty Bar / Palm Door (Kanine Showcase)]
