The country’s history is echoed in its music, creating a captivating narrative that spans classical, folk, rock, techno, and beyond. Germany’s musical landscape stands as a testament to its cultural depth and enduring impact on the world of music.

In our ongoing series 5 Artists You Should Know, we introduce local artists from regions all over the world. We’re very excited to share these five rising artists in Germany that showcase the country’s diversity and global growth: Blumengarten, Orbit, Novaa, ENNIO, & Lie Ning.

Blumengarten

Blumengarten, was founded by singer Rayan and producer Sammy in 2021 in Velbert, Germany. The duo sought to fuse several indie, pop, and hip-hop influences into a distinctive sound. Their debut EP, “sag deinen freunden, dass du sie liebst” released in July 2022, showcases a unique style created through four months of experimentation in Sammy’s basement. The music video for “Paris Syndrome” quickly gained attention, earning recognition from artists like Casper and Longus Mongus. They released “Paris Syndrome (Roof Session)” in December 2022, with Paul Hartmann, after she became aware of their music.

Throughout the summer of 2023, Blumengarten expanded their fan base with over 30 festival gigs, and collaborations with 01099 and Cro, culminating in an 8-track EP and their first headline tour in December 2023.

orbit

Meet Marcel Heym, the 28-year-old mind behind “orbit,” an electronic project blending acoustic sounds and synth leads. Originally a Berlin music producer, Marcel returned to his rural roots to start releasing music as orbit in 2020, with the debut EP “Perspectives.” Beyond music, orbit has become a creative hub for the indie community in Germany. In 2021, Marcel and friends organized concerts in fans’ hometowns, followed by over 20 shows across the country. In 2022, orbit went international, supporting Parra For Cuva and headlining their first club tour all around Europe. Spring 2023 brought Marcel’s third EP, “Sunday By The River,” exploring a darker side inspired by embracing the night.

Novaa

Novaa is a powerhouse in the music scene, winning accolades as a songwriter, producer, and singer, including the Popkultur Prize for Favorite Producer. Her unique concept albums, like “The Futurist” & “She’s A Star”, explore themes such as AI fascination & women’s challenges. She’s earned spots at top festivals, such as Reeperbahn-Festival and Eurosonic Norderslaag, and is now gearing up for her first tour in 2023. Novaa dropped her 5th album, “SUPER NOVAA”, on October 13th, 2023 – her first official release with a label. This supernova of an album sheds light on the music industry and the artist’s journey, crafted intentionally as a powerful, farewell letter.

ENNIO

ENNIO is making waves in the indie scene with sold-out tours, festival acclaim, and awards. From his 2021 debut single ‘Blaulicht’ to the well-received 2022 album ‘Nirvana,’ ENNIO’s unique music has garnered millions of streams and praise from industry heavyweights.

With over 30 festival appearances and support for Kraftklub, ENNIO’s live shows are a hit, blending emotional love songs with energetic crowd-pleasers. His second tour, ‘ENNIO 2023 Live,’ was a massive success, necessitating venue upgrades due to high demand. 

In 2023, he dropped the versatile ‘Rimini’ tape, featuring a range of new tracks and covers. As fans eagerly await his upcoming album ‘Schlaraffenland,’ ENNIO released his new single ‘Utopie,’ setting the stage for a huge 2024.

LIE NING

Berlin-based, multi-talent LIE NING is making waves in the music and fashion world. With an ANCHOR AWARD nomination, appearances at SXSW, Fusion, and Reeperbahn, and supporting acts like Milky Chance and Raphael Saadiq, LIE NING is on an impressive trajectory. Their debut album “utopia,” produced by Grammy winner Stephen Fitzmaurice, garnered international attention, featuring standout singles “error” and “i see you.” A favorite at Preis für Popkultur 2023, LIE NING’s headline tour and festival appearances drew sold-out crowds worldwide. The artist, celebrated by publications like Vogue and featured on the cover of Spotify’s GLOW playlist, seamlessly navigates indie, soul, and R&B, creating emotionally powerful moments in music, along with breathtaking visuals.
