Out Today by The Orchard: Nas, SUNMI, Tamela Mann

Celebrate this weekend with new releases from Hip-Hop music legend Nas, Gospel singer-songwriter Tamela Mann, and K-Pop superstar SUNMI.

Nas – King’s Disease II (Mass Appeal)

Multi-platinum Hip-Hop artist Nas presents King’s Disease II, the sequel project to his GRAMMY-Award winning album King’s Disease. Produced by Hit-Boy (JAY-Z, Beyoncé, Travis Scott) and Gabriel “G Code” Zardes, the album’s star-studded tracklist features appearances from Ms. Lauryn Hill, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, YG, EPMD, Eminem, Charlie Wilson, and Blxst. Since his 1994 debut studio album Illmatic, Nas has sold 15+ million records in the U.S. alone and has released 25 Billboard Hot 100 tracks, establishing him as one of the most influential R&B artists of all time. The legendary New York MC’s fourteenth studio album, King’s Disease II, is expected to rival his previous successes, with NME stating “With the weight of the world finally off his shoulders, Nas appears more focused than ever before.”

Tamela Mann – Overcomer (Tillymann Rec)

American Gospel singer, actress, author and entrepreneur, Tamela Mann continues to release powerful music that brings listeners closer to their faith with her newest album, Overcomer. The 12 tracks on Overcomer are propelled by Mann’s passionate vocals and striking songwriting ability, with each song standing on its own with masterful production by Tamela’s husband, music producer and NAACP Image Award-Winning Actor and Comedian, David Mann. The Grammy Award winner’s newest album is only her latest achievement in her prolific career. Between reprising the role as “Cora” in Tyler Perry’s TV show “Assisted Living” (BET+), and releasing a NAACP Image Award-winning book and joint album with her husband, Us Against the World.  Overcomer is filled with standout singles that showcase some of Mann’s best work. The album’s debut single “Touch From You” was Mann’s seventh song to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart, while “Hello God” turned heads with its unique melding of R&B, reggae, rap, and gospel. Mann describes the creative process behind Overcomer, explaining “I poured my experiences into the lyrics, putting my heart and soul into the words on this album. It’s me looking at my life and the things I was dealing with, trying to learn from those things, and doing what I can to overcome them.” Watch the video for Tamala’s tender ballad “Help Me” below.

SUNMI – 1/6 (Abyss Company)

K-Pop Queen SUNMI returns with her newest mini-album 1/6, a six-song EP that conveys the mood of a free and bright summer. The EP’s title song, “You Can’t Sit With Us” was released alongside a video teaser that showcased SUMNI’s 2000s-fashion inspired look. Set in a retro-themed DVD rental store, the action-packed clip shows SUNMI fighting against a horde of zombies. In 2007, SUMNI debuted in the music industry at the age of 16 as a member of the girl group ‘Wonder Girls.’ Since the start of her career, SUNMI has dominated the K-pop industry with mega-hits that reflect her distinct voice and musical style. In 2019, SUNMI successfully held her first world tour as a solo artist, with sold-out performances in 19 regions around the world. SUNMI’s success extends beyond the music industry, as she is set to be a mentor on the upcoming Mnet reality TV show Girls Planet 999.
