RJD2 Offers Deluxe Pre-Order Packages of Inversions Of The Colossus

Following on the success of The Colossus, producer/DJ/instrumentalist extraordinaire RJD2 returns with Inversions of the Colossus, a companion piece of its own unique nature.  The “instrumental” album is a time-honored tradition in hip-hop that RJD2 has taken advantage of whenever possible (without an instrumental version of “Magnificent City”, there would be no MAD MEN theme!)  However, in classic RJ fashion, he decided to create Inversions with a new twist on the idea: in essence, all 7 of the vocal songs on The Colossus appear here sans vocals.  The remainder of the album is made up of 7 brand new songs, so it’s 14 tracks in all!  Ranging from banging dancefloor funk to extreme psychedelia, it follows a similar “no format” approach as The Colossus did.  Whatever you want to call it, it’s definitely yet another solid collection of classic RJD2(more…)

What Others Are Saying About The Orchard’s New RJD2 iPhone App

It should come as no surprise that more and more artists and record labels are embracing the iPhone and iPod Touch as a new means of marketing themselves to today’s generation of heads who are either covertly or overtly electronic geeks. In December we took a look at the Delicious Vinyl DJ application, and now to kick off February 2010 we’re taking a look at the RJD2 Mix application to see whether or not it’s something you’ll want to throw down $2.99 for!

RJD2 Mix is a bit obtuse at the start, as you’re offered the screen pictured at the right with no explanation what you should do next. Fortunately it’s a loading screen so if you simply do nothing a menu pops up with one big blue button in the middle that says Start To Mix, and well below it you are offered three other non-game options: RJD2 on Twitter, RJD2 on iTunes and More Touch Mix - the latter being a whole series of iPhone app made by Future Audio Workshop similar to this one. In the press release accompanying this game FAW says that “RJD2’s iPhone remix app finally (gives) fans and tinkerers alike the chance to experience a bit of what it sounded like in RJ’s studio as he worked on upcoming LP The Colossus.” That’s a bit daunting given RJ has to have tens of thousands of dollars of equipment in his studio - how could a $2.99 touch screen app possibly even come close to reproducing that? Surfer Blood, RJD2, Wakey!Wakey! and the iPad

For the rest of the world today is all about the iPad, for me, it’s about my current 3 favorite Orch-artists (and the iPad):

Surfer BloodAstro Coast debuted at #2 on the Top New Artists/Heatseekers chart , #116 o on the Top 200 , #29 Alt Charts, #1 Alt New Artists, #19 Independent charts and, lastly, #38 Digital Albums. Good thing this happened because it reminded me to get my friends to buy tix for their Feb 28th Mercury Lounge show. Good times.

RJD2 The Colossus landed at #4 on the Top New Artists/Heatseekers chart, #168 on the Top 200 and #114 on the R&B chart. He’s always been a favorite of mine and  this album is no exception; today I’m loving the soulful track “Walk With Me”Go buy it and let me know what you think. While you’re at it, go watch his video for Let There Be Horns.

Wakey!Wakey! - Back to the iPad: Almost Everything, the title track from next week’s full-length debut from Wakey!Wakey!, plays at the 5:10 mark on the iPad promo video. I started watching it just to hear the song, which led to me being completely entranced in the video and, now, I officially want an iPad.

This week marks the release of DJ/producer superstar RJD2’s iPhone remix app, finally giving fans and tinkerers alike the chance to experience a bit of what it sounded like in RJ’s studio as he worked on upcoming LP The Colossus (due in stores on 1/19 via RJ’s own label, RJ’s Electrical Connections).  The application, called Touch Mix, was created by Future Audio Workshop, the makers of the well-received deadmau5 remix app.  RJD2 announced the news on his website Monday as part of his “Monday Madness” series, telling fans, “you can make your own mixes on the fly with 5 cuts, and also get a sneak preview of another track from The Colossus.”  There are more details about how the Touch Mix app works on their site.
