michaelearlsIntroducing Michael Earls, Director of Technology

I’m really excited to join The Orchard and work with all of the talented people here. I come from Tunecore — some of you may have heard of it — where I ran the software development team for the past three years, helping to build a platform for their publishing and synch licensing businesses along the way.

My career in tech started about twenty years ago producing real magazines, maps and environmental graphics in the era of Desktop Publishing. I starting to cobble together my first websites just as the initial dot-com boom went bust. I went back to school to learn Java at night and was fortunate enough to work on the first web sites for American Express Publishing (Food & Wine, Travel and Leisure magazines).

In 2007, I made the leap to social networking, running the dev team for fotolog.com. During my time there, the site grew tremendously, at one point registering as the second most popular site in Chile after Google. Unfortunately, its decline was just as awesome. In any case, I was really proud of the work we did to scale the site up to meet the demand.

In my twenties, I worked as a foot-soldier in the music industry, taking the vow of poverty to play in loads of crappy Punk Rock bands, not least among them the mighty Gang Green. I spent a couple of years getting in and out of the van, either with my own band or roadie-ing for the likes of Indie Rock stalwarts Bettie Serveert and Buffalo Tom.

I live in Brooklyn with my wife, two boys, mother-in-law and a beagle named Gatwick. I’m from Boston, perhaps you have heard of our Championship Sports Teams.

Welcome, Sarah!

sarah kim video programming coordinator the orchardIntroducing Sarah Kim, Video Programming Coordinator

Hi all, I’m thrilled to be joining Video Operations and to be a part of the Orchard family!

I’m originally from Los Angeles and went to school next door at NYU where I studied journalism. This led me to a lot of odd jobs at different magazines (the Martha behind the “Ask Martha” column at the Martha Stewart Magazine — that was me!). My respect for journalism took me to reality television, where I worked as an associate producer for shows on Discovery, Esquire and Animal Planet, unfortunately all involving betrayal and none involving food.

When I’m not working, I’m struggling to maintain mediocrity in my fantasy basketball league. I really (REALLY) like Tyson Chandler and I pretty much build all my teams around him, which makes for a lot of great trash-talking, but not very good teams.

I feel fortunate to be surrounded by so many people who are very good at what they do. If you have any questions (or fantasy advice) shoot me a comment below!

Welcome, Maggie!

maggie leyden, client relations manager, film & TV at The OrchardIntroducing Maggie Leyden, Client Relations Manager, Film & TV

I’m very excited to be joining the Client Services team for Video Distribution here at The Orchard! I grew up in Yonkers, NY and previously, I was at Sesame Workshop for about 6.5 years doing International Media Distribution — mostly TV & DVD. Before going global, I also worked on the U.S. side doing client relations for all local PBS stations. While nothing will quite compare to the surreal experience of running into the Muppets in the workplace… I’m ready to get started on something new and learn more about what you all do as well!

Other things about me… I’m a big TV binge-watcher (currently House of Cards & still not fully recovered from Breaking Bad) and loyal Bruce Springsteen fan. I love to get any and all TV, movie and music recommendations and something tells me this place is full of them so I’m looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome, Joanna!

joanna noyes interactive marketing director the orchardIntroducing Joanna Noyes, Director, Interactive Marketing

I am very excited to be joining the Interactive Marketing team at The Orchard! If you are wondering where I came from here is a bit about me…

I started out on the label side of things at a joint venture with Island/Def Jam. Upon leaving I partnered up with an industry veteran and launched For The Win! Media. I ran digital marketing/PR campaigns working with Ellie Goulding, Coca Cola, Cut Copy, etc. A few years later, we rebranded the company and became Zero To Sixty, where I was the managing partner and had the pleasure of working with La Roux, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and Samsung. Most recently, I was consulting for labels, managers, as well as artists directly on social media strategy and digital marketing.

On the personal side, along with being a music lover I am also a dog lover. So much so that I run an Instagram account for my french bulldog. If you are so inclined, follow @georgethefrenchbully for adorableness.

Welcome, Matt!

Matt Landers, Sales Manager, Film & TVIntroducing Matt Landers, Sales Manager, Film & TV

My name is Matt, and I’m thrilled to be joining The Orchard’s Film & TV team.

Originally from the Jersey Shore, I grew up a bit of a comic book nerd with a passion for New York sports teams (Knicks, Yankees and Giants — it’s been a rough year). An original comic script got me into NYU’s Dramatic Writing undergrad program, and I’ve been based in the city ever since.

Internships at indie film development and distribution companies (Jean Doumanian Prod., Sony Classics, Oscilloscope) — initially in the hopes of just getting my scripts read — coalesced into a career in film marketing and sales, where most recently I’m proud to have helped launch the Tribeca Film Festival’s year-round distribution entity, Tribeca Film.

When I’m not working, I play a lot of basketball and golf, see as much live music (most recently Foxygen and Neutral Milk Hotel) and stand-up comedy as I can, and indulge an unnatural addiction to Chipotle for which I make no apologies.

I really look forward to getting to know you all, and if you have any questions just stop by or shoot me an email any time!
