Welcome, Oleg!

olegrozovIntroducing Oleg Rozov, Client & Marketing Manager, Russia

My name is Oleg, i was born in Moscow in 1984.

I started my day job on MTV Russia and was working as a director on True Life (Russian Version), then I joined Faces&Laces, an interactive exhibition and music show, where I was curating music format and bookings. After that I joined Dream Industries and Zvooq, where I was involved in the product strategy, mostly focused on signing the indie catalogues and label relations.

My passion for music started during the school period, I was involved in Hip Hop and rave subcultures, which were very popular in Russia in the 90s (along with Punk Rock and Metal), when all the new things from the West started flooding our country after the USSR collapsed.

I graduated from Moscow’s Humanitarian Institute of TV and Radio Broadcasting. These were the times I started visiting different raves together with my friends, it was Jungle and House music. UK’s underground scene (early Jungle, UK Hardcore, UK Garage) was something that really drew my attention and I started to buy vinyl records. It was impossible to get music from the Internet back then (as it wasn’t even fully there yet :)), and that is how things became serious for me.

It was 2001 when I started to collect wax – that was the end of the Electronic music renaissance in Russia. I began to play in clubs in 2002; in 2004, I hosted my own radio show about UK Garage on Moscow’s first ‘Urban’ radio station, NEXT 105.2 FM (now closed). Later I launched the first ever Dubstep/Garage club night in Russia and CIS called Capital Bass (2006) and brought all the main artists (incl. Scuba, Kode9, Pearson Sound, Skream and many others) to Moscow. In 2012, Capital Bass became a vinyl/digital label as I felt that many interesting things are happening on the local scene and it’s time to push Russian producers and give them a good chance to release their music on vinyl.

My other hobbies include: custom motorcycles, asian culture, fitness, etc.

larron_armsteadIntroducing Larron Armstead, Senior Software Engineer

My name is Larron Armstead and I was born a hot July day in Los Angeles, California. During my childhood I spent some time bouncing between Dayton, Ohio and my former home, California. My father was a C++ programmer so it was only natural that my younger brother and I would flourish in the world of technology.

At age 11, my training shot into serious mode when a friend of mine showed me the ropes with torrenting, Napster and the like. The technology realm was wide open and left me with no other choice but to LEVEL UP. I installed Flash and animated my first ridiculously hilarious comic within a week. I won’t go into extreme detail about the clip but I will say that it had a cowbell sound and was about an alien coming down in a UFO who set his eyes on a cow and ultimately had barbeque for dinner (yes, flames were involved).

I continued to train and decided that I wanted to make some cash, so I began picking up odd jobs from technology forums and freelance websites. I got through the frustration of my training along with the cold winter months of Dayton, Ohio by using one simple tool… Push-Ups.

At the age of 15, as you’d assume, I was quite leveled up and had started a web development company that needed clients. I took to what seemed to be the most obvious route — manual_e-mail_spam. I know… I know what you’re thinking, but hey, read on! One dark and gloomy day (or night) I just happened to e-mail a real estate agent who just happened to be at the executive level of an international real estate company formerly named Red Carpet. After a few phone calls, a deal was inked and I’d like to think that I was the happiest 15 year old in the world at the time. Looking back I think they may have been the happiest old people considering that I would later go on to rebuild their entire corporate website for six large (=$600). Obviously my tech skills were elite but my negotiation skills needed some help. Fortunately this later led to a business meeting in a suit and with the head dude in charge of not only Red Carpet, but also Home Life and Realty World (yeah, pretty cool).

LeeBarterIntroducing Lee Barter, Senior Account Manager, Video Services, Europe

Hello team, I’m Lee, the bearded bloke with the tattoos.

Pleasure to finally be here, after finally escaping the world of Warner Music (ADA). In my past lives, I’ve worked for Essential Music and Believe Digital (boooooo!) in a myriad of roles (label manager, account manager, dragon slayer, neighbouring rights management, production goon, IT guy, gofer, digital sales, all sorts) before selling out and landing a role at ADA where I was the “Digital Production & YouTube Manager” AKA “the ‘your bright ideas are my late nights & total utter nightmares’ guy.” I then saw the light and came over to the wonderful world of The Orchard.

A bit of background info:

I like music on the heavier side of things but I’m willing to give anything a go.

I pretend to play the drums and can successfully hold both sticks.

I’m 30, but dress like an angry 16 year old and like to pretend I’m still 22.

I don’t really drink, but don’t let that stand in the way of doing something stupid for fun.

I’m a fully functioning nerd (I can hold a conversation with real people, yet still recite the script for ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ – clearly the best film in the series).

I think Spider-man would beat Batman in a fight.

I make the best brownies ever. Fact.

I try and ruin every photo I’m in.

I have 2 ears, 2 eyes and a nose.

Shoe size is either 11 or 12 depending on the style / brand.

My girlfriend is an award-winning hairdresser.

I have no idea what I’m doing.

I am delighted to be here.

Welcome, Nick!

nicklevkovichIntroducing Nick Levkovich, Software Engineer

Hi everyone! My name is Nick and I am excited to introduce myself as a new member of The Orchard team. I am originally from Ukraine and moved to the United States right after graduating from university. I have been living in Brooklyn for the past 10 years and been working in computer related fields.

My previous position was a Web Marketing Developer for Complex Media. While there, I worked with a team of 12 front-end developers and was a dedicated back-end developer. I enjoyed working at Complex Media, however, was ready for a new challenge moving forward.

Gladly, I found that The Orchard has it all: the challenge, a great professional team and interesting projects. I am very excited to become a part of the team and am looking forward to getting down to work!

During my free time, I enjoy playing computer games, participating in sports (mostly swimming and boxing) and hanging out with my friends.

Welcome, Jess!

JessChungIntroducing Jess Chung, Software Engineer, Video Services

My name is Jess and I am ecstatic to be joining the team at The Orchard, as a member of the Video Services team. I grew up in Chicago, but also spent long-ish periods of time in Honolulu and San Diego. I attended Williams College in Western Massachusetts, where I was the music director of WCFM 91.9 (among other things).

After graduating, I spent a year teaching high school chemistry at Horace Mann School. Most recently, I worked at IBG, which provides consulting, research and systems integration services in biometrics and identity intelligence for federal government agencies and commercial customers. If you ever feel like talking biometric collection and matching, let me know!

During my free time, I enjoy going to shows and listening to new music (the photo is me with Marnie Stern a couple of weeks ago — she really shreds it and let me shake her hand), going to the gym and hanging out at dog parks with my miniature schnauzer, Fred.
