2021 American Music Award Winners

2021 American Music Award Winners

The 49th Annual American Music Awards took place yesterday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, recognizing the most popular artists, singles and albums of 2021. Cardi B energized the crowd as the host of the infamous event, the second female rapper in history to do so since Queen Latifa in 1995. Throughout the night, many of The Orchard’s familiar faces took to the stage, whether to receive an award or perform a 2021 anthem.

After scoring 10 wins at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards earlier this year, and 2 Latin Grammy wins just this week, Rimas’ Bad Bunny continued his impressive award cycle by taking home the AMA’s Favorite Male Latin Artist Award. The performer also took the stage alongside Tainy and Julieta Venegas for an eye-popping performance of their hit single “Lo Siento BB:/,“ which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot Latin Songs chart earlier this year. The performance turned the song into a sci-fi spectacle, with all three artists surrounded by neon colors and eye-catching set pieces for a futuristic showcase. Bad Bunny also took home Favorite Latin Album Award for El Último Tour del Mundo, which became his fifth consecutive project to reach No.1 on the Top Latin Albums chart.

The Favorite Latin Duo or Group award went to Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga, whose 13th studio album, El Trabajo Es la Suerte, debuted at No.16 on Billboard’s Top Latin Album charts earlier last year. Their collaboration with Snoop Dogg “Qué Maldición” served as a bridge, bringing the group to the mainstream in 2020. The 16 piece group has become one of the most successful regional Mexican music acts, with banda music that has topped Latin charts for over 15 years.

Pop sensation BTS took home the most awards of the night, including the coveted Artist of the Year award. The band voiced their gratitude upon receiving the award, stating “Four years ago, we gave this first-time-ever TV live performance at this stage, AMAs, it was ‘DNA.’ We were too excited and nervous at the time, and it’s been a long and amazing ride since then,” said band member RM. “We’ll never take it for granted.” BTS also received Favorite Pop Duo or Group as well as Favorite Pop Song award for their hit single “Butter.”  Their time on stage didn’t stop there. The group also made an appearance to perform “My Universe” with Coldplay as well as their award-winning song “Butter.”
