The Polaris Music Prize is a non-for-profit organization that has celebrated creativity and diversity in Canadian music since its establishment in 2006. Each year, The Polaris Music Prize winner is selected by an independent jury of music representatives who determine the best full-length Canadian album based on artistic merit, regardless of music genre or commercial popularity. The Polaris Music Prize recently announced the 40 album Long List of nominees for the 2021 award, and are scheduled to release the 2021 Short List of nominees on July 15th.
In order to be considered for the 2021 Polaris Music Prize, albums must have been released between May 1, 2020 and May 31, 2021.
We are excited to announce that ten artists and labels distributed by The Orchard were nominated on The 2021 Polaris Music Prize Long List! Among these nominated artists is Charlotte Cardin, the Montreal artist whose debut album, Phoenix, hit No.1 in Canada, making her the first Canadian woman in five years to achieve multiple weeks at No.1 on the charts. The 2021 Polaris Music Prize will be streamed around the world in the Fall of 2021 and can be watched on CBC Music.
